Okazaki AEROPAK® Mineral-Insulated Thermocouples — Identification and Replacement Information

3 min read

Introduction

The Okazaki AEROPAK® product family consists of mineral-insulated, metal-sheathed thermocouples for industrial temperature measurement.

AEROPAK® construction incorporates thermocouple wires inside a stainless-steel or heat-resistant-steel sheath, with magnesium oxide firmly packed around the wires. This compact construction supports temperature measurement where response, mechanical strength and installation flexibility are relevant.

Correct identification is essential because the thermocouple type, element quantity, measuring junction, sheath, dimensions, termination and environmental protection depend on the selected configuration. Similar external appearance does not confirm interchangeability. (Okazaki AEROPAK Thermocouple)

Technical Overview: Okazaki AEROPAK Thermocouple

Okazaki publishes an overall product-family temperature range of −200 to 1,260°C and a sheath manufacturing range of 0.08 to 22 mm outside diameter. These values represent family-level capabilities and do not apply universally to every configuration.

Confirmed configuration options include:

Configuration Parameter

Confirmed Options

Thermocouple Type

N, K, E, J and T

Element Configuration

Single, double or triple element

Measuring-Junction Type

Grounded, ungrounded, ungrounded/separated or exposed

Connection Arrangement

Extension lead wire, connector or terminal box

Installation Configuration

Indoor, outdoor or explosion-protected model

Published thermocouple allowance information references JIS C1605, IEC 60584-2 and ASTM E230. The minimum bending radius is identified as twice the sheath outside diameter.

The applicable temperature range, tolerance, sheath material, allowable bending and installation suitability must be confirmed from the complete model configuration.

Industrial Applications

AEROPAK® thermocouples may be used where compact construction, response to temperature changes, mechanical strength or routing flexibility is required.

Depending on the selected model and sheath material, applications may include indoor industrial machinery, outdoor installations, high- and low-temperature processes, vibrating equipment, corrosive environments and hazardous areas in petroleum-refining or petrochemical facilities.

Application suitability must be evaluated against the process temperature, pressure, atmosphere, vibration, corrosion exposure and hazardous-area requirements.

Identification and Replacement Considerations

Before evaluating an installed AEROPAK® thermocouple, verify:

  • Okazaki Manufacturing Company as the manufacturer

  • Complete model code, including every suffix

  • Thermocouple type and tolerance

  • Single, double or triple element construction

  • Measuring-junction type

  • Sheath material and outside diameter

  • Insertion and overall lengths

  • Process connection and mounting dimensions

  • Lead wire, connector or terminal-box configuration

  • Normal and maximum operating temperatures

  • Process atmosphere, pressure, vibration and corrosion exposure

  • Hazardous-area classification, where applicable

  • Applicable technical standard

  • Required quantity

The evaluation should be based on a readable nameplate, copy of the original drawing, technical datasheet or previous purchase specification. Selection based only on probe diameter or visual similarity is not technically sufficient.

Information Recommended for Quotation

For quotation review, provide the complete manufacturer model code, copy of the original drawing or readable nameplate, thermocouple type, element quantity, measuring-junction type, sheath specification, probe dimensions, process connection, termination arrangement and operating conditions.

Also indicate:

  • End user or plant name

  • Direct supply or tender participation

  • Required quantity

  • Delivery destination

  • Required quotation deadline

When the complete model is unavailable, use the Okazaki Model Code Identifier to organize the available configuration data. The application is a preliminary identification resource and does not replace verification against original manufacturer documentation.
