Introduction
Temperature measurement in hazardous industrial areas requires sensors specifically selected for the applicable explosion-protection standard, process conditions, and destination country.
Okazaki Manufacturing offers explosion/flame-proof temperature sensors based on two mineral-insulated technologies:
Aeropak® T99 and T409: sheathed thermocouples
Resiopak® R99 and R409: sheathed resistance temperature detectors
These sensor families combine a mineral-insulated probe with a certified terminal enclosure for temperature monitoring in demanding process environments.

Technical Overview
Parameter | Confirmed Configuration |
Manufacturer | Okazaki Manufacturing Company |
Product Type | Explosion/flame-proof temperature sensor |
Thermocouple Models | Aeropak® T99 and T409 |
RTD Models | Resiopak® R99 and R409 |
Standard Protection | IP66 for applicable configurations |
U.S. Enclosure Ratings | NEMA 4 and 4X |
Canadian Enclosure Ratings | Type 4 and 4X |
Terminal Enclosures | Aluminum die-cast or stainless-steel options |
Enclosure Arrangements | GE, GED, GES and GESD |
Optional Output | Two-wire temperature transmitter with 4–20 mA output |
Sensor Construction | Mineral-insulated sheathed probe |
Certification | Model, configuration and destination-dependent |
Okazaki lists certification routes for Japan, IECEx, ATEX, the United States, Canada, China, Korea, India, Brazil, Taiwan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Certification must be verified for the exact model and configuration. Availability of an approval within the product family does not mean that every sensor combination carries every listed certification.
Thermocouple and RTD Configurations
Aeropak® T99/T409 thermocouples are available with several thermocouple element types, sheath diameters, junction arrangements and sheath materials. Confirmed sheath-material options include 316 stainless steel, 310S stainless steel and an NCF600-equivalent alloy.
Resiopak® R99/R409 resistance temperature detectors are available in Pt100 or JPt100 configurations. Depending on the selected temperature code, the listed operating ranges extend from cryogenic service at −196°C to a maximum of 500°C.
Both families include basic, nipple-and-union, support-pipe, spring-loaded and multipoint-related configurations, subject to the selected model and certification.

Industrial Applications: Okazaki explosion-proof temperature sensors
Okazaki explosion-proof temperature sensors may be evaluated for hazardous process areas in:
Petrochemical and chemical plants
Oil and gas facilities
Power-generation equipment
Marine and offshore systems
Mining and mineral-processing plants
Reactors, vessels, pipelines and heat exchangers
Final suitability depends on the hazardous-area classification, required certification, process temperature, ambient temperature, fluid, pressure, mechanical loading and installation arrangement.
Information Required for Selection
Technical identification should include:
Aeropak thermocouple or Resiopak RTD
Required basic model and construction
Destination country and certification
Hazardous-area classification
Measuring range and sensor accuracy
Sheath diameter, material and insertion length
Process connection and cable-entry thread
Terminal-enclosure material
Single, double or multipair configuration
Requirement for a 4–20 mA transmitter
The terminal enclosure also has certification-specific ambient-temperature restrictions. Cable glands, adapters and installation practices must comply with the approval applicable to the destination project.
